NFC to Host Fish Tours at Newton Cemetery and Arboretum in Massachusetts...

Native Fish Coalition will be hosting two fish tours at Newton Cemetery and Arboretum in Newton, Massachusetts, on Friday, May 8th, at 10:00am and 1:30pm.

As part of their work on the Cold Spring Brook watershed, MA NFC performed a Holistic Stream Assessment on the waters found within the cemetery property. This includes Cold Spring Brook and 3 manmade impoundments on the brook.

NFC was surprised to find wild native pumpkinseed sunfish, golden shiners, and yellow perch in relative high abundance, especially the former.

Attendees will learn about the history of the stream, alterations to the stream over the past 150 years, a very complex and innovative pumping system, and the fish that call the cemetery home.
