NFC Executive Director Bob Mallard recently say down to talk about wild native fish with Tenkara Angler. Previously, Bob had written articles for Tenkara Angler in 2020 and 2023. Bob even took his turn with a Tenkara rod summer of 2025 at a Tenkara event in New Hampshire’s White Mountain region with the help of CT NFC Chair Nate Camp.
There is an absolute and clear connection between Tenkara angling and those who practice it and wild native fish. Best suited for small streams, Tenkara anglers often find themselves fishing for wild native trout. And not by accident, as they seem to really appreciate unspoiled places and natural intact aquatic ecosystems.
Two years ago, then SC NFC board member and current National Advisory Council member Amanda Hoffner raised money for NFC at a NH Tenkara event. That money was used a year later just five miles from where it was raised to plant trees on a section of unstocked wild native brook trout stream that had been clear-cut.
