Ray "Bucky" Owen

RAY "BUCKY" OWEN is one of Maine's best known conservationists.  Bucky studied biology at Bowdoin and earned a Ph.D. in ecology from the University of Illinois.  He spent over thirty years as a professor at University of Maine Orono, including chairing the Wildlife Department for a decade.  Bucky served as the Commissioner for Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife where he initiated the Quality Fishing Initiative, a program that made sweeping changes to how Maine's wild native brook trout were managed.  He was Chairman for the Maine Atlantic Salmon Commission, US delegate to the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization and a key player in the Penobscot River Restoration Project.  Bucky was awarded the prestigious Lee Wulff Award from Atlantic Salmon Federation in 2009.  He can be reached at buckyandsue@gmail.com
