GREG WILSON

GREG WILSON was a passionate outdoors person since his youth.  He got into fly fishing in his teens, and has been an avid fly fisher for roughly 45 years.  Greg’s passion for fly fishing led him to become a champion for our rivers and streams.  In the early 1990s, Greg turned his attention to a stressed local limestone spring creek, Lititz Run, in Lancaster County, to see if he could rehabilitate it.   With little information available, he coordinated an effort to roll rocks into the stream to narrow the channel and discourage livestock.  They also planted trees to stabilize banks, reduce run-off, and provide shade. Thirty years later, this once very polluted stream is now home to self-sustaining trout, albeit nonnative ones.  In 2000, Greg received TU’s  “Volunteer Conservationist of the Year” award.  Officially retired in 2012, Greg spent most of his time volunteering and doing restoration work, and maintaining his property where he planted all native flora.  He was a member of several local conservation groups, and was on the Board of the Lancaster Conservation District.  Greg was a founding member of the NFC Pennsylvania Board. He later moved to the Advisory council due to time constraints. He passed on January 19th 2022. Greg will be sorely missed by all those who knew him. Conservation in Southeastern PA has lost a tremendous advocate for healthy aquatic ecosystems and native fish.
