JOSEPH TOMELLERI
JOSEPH TOMELLERI is a native of Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1984 with a M.S. in Biology. Joseph is an internationally-known artist specializing in fish. His work is used extensively by federal and state fish and wildlife agencies in fishing rule books, websites, etc. Since the inception of NFC, Joseph has provided the fish art for most of our informational signs, as well as website content developed for government agencies. Joseph works in Prismacolor pencil, and his 1,200+ illustrations are done from actual specimens to ensure biological accuracy. Most of his specimens are collected in the field so he can photograph the fishes live, and have freshly preserved material to use for illustrations. Joseph's work has appeared in more than 1,000 publications, including the seminal book Trout and Salmon of North America by the esteemed Dr. Robert Behnke, the books Fishes of the Salish Sea and Fishes of Alabama, Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, and The In-Fisherman magazines, and catalogs by vendors such as Eddie Bauer. He has also worked extensively with scientists from Mexico and the U.S. to illustrate the native trout of Mexico. Joseph recently worked the Pacific Salmon Foundation on a book illustrating the life stages of Pacific salmon, steelhead, and coastal cutthroat trout, due out in fall of 2022. He is also a fly fisherman (though according to him he's not all that accomplished), and enjoys seining and studying wild native fishes. Joseph can be reached at Info@NativeFishCoalition.org
