Vermont NFC Supports Proposed Hatchery Closure

The Vermont Chapter of Native Fish Coalition sent a letter to the VT media and Fish & Wildlife supporting the governor’s proposal to close the Salisbury fish hatchery to address a budget shortfall. In addition to the economic realities, the hatchery is a source of pollution which would cost $12-$13mil to mitigate.

NFC does not believe the hatchery closure will result in any measurable loss of revenue or any noticeable decline in fishing. NFC also feels that the money required to address the pollution problem would be better spent on projects that benefit wild native fish.
