ME NFC Chimes in on State Endangered Redfin Pickerel

The current Maine Fishing Lawbook does not list pickerel as a fish species that is granted any protections. This means by default, all pickerel fall under “Inland species not listed above” in the General Law, for which the Daily Bag and Possession is “Unlimited” and the Length Limit is “None”.

Note: Post submission, ME NFC retracted the statement “Currently, the state is doing nothing to protect Endangered redfin pickerel,” replacing it with “Currently, the state is not providing Endangered redfin pickerel from angler harvest”. What they are doing is unclear, but to say they are doing nothing is not a statement that can be defended, so it was withdrawn accordingly.
