Non-Board/Advisory Council NFC Membership

Non-board and advisory council membership in NFC is passive not active. Passive members are not involved in chapter decisions and activities, or invited to chapter meetings. Passive membership is a form of financial support and acknowledgement of what we do. This was done because we did not want pay-to-play active membership like what exists in organizations such as TU.  We felt strongly that small vetted boards was the best way to avoid watering down the mission and/or messaging, or drifting off course.  

NFC decided at founding that passive membership in NFC would be at the national not state level.  This was partly due to accounting overhead and financial exposure of chapter level bank accounts, IRS reporting, etc. We also wanted chapters to focus on conservation not administration.
