Data loggers are an important part of stream assessment as they allow us to monitor stream variables over a period of time. These devices are anchored in the streambed and record data at intervals determined by NFC. The data is periodically downloaded to a handheld device, usually a smartphone, via Bluetooth and analyzed to determine trends and detect notable events. This unit is used when we are looking to monitor both water temperature and dryness, or intermittency, at a given location.
