NFC has partnered with Newton Conservators and Friends of Cold Spring Park to replace 2 informal footbridges on Cold Spring Brook in Newton, Massachusetts. These bridges were identified as being impediments to streamflow while negatively impacting fish passage. The bridges are also unsightly and unsafe. The group looks to replace the 2 informal structures with formal footbridges that are raised above the water to improve streamflow, eliminate the collection of leaves and debris upstream, and improve fish passage.

Your donation helps NFC and our partners purchase the materials required to construct the new footbridges. The old structures and related debris will be removed from the stream and park by volunteers. The new bridges will be constructed by volunteers as well. Cold Spring Brook in Cold Spring Park is a unique public land in a heavily developed area and home to wild native golden shiners and catadromous American eels.
