The biggest project NFC has taken on to date is progressing quite nicely. Big thanks to our volunteers and partners for stepping up for these unique and irreplaceable waters.

Maine’s State Heritage Fish waters are a national treasure. The number one threat to these waters, and by a wide margin, is nonnative fish introductions. The goal of the project is to try to help address this.

We are about a quarter of the way done with another quarter of the waters assigned or the signs already picked up.

When you factor in waters where we have not been granted, or been refused, permission to post signs we are doing even better: Roughly 35% and 30% respectively. And we hope to gain more permissions in the weeks to come.

If we expect to protect these waters we need to let people know what they are, where they are, and what is expected and required of them. The informational sign project is an important tool for helping to do that.
