Cold Stream Forest Gets State Heritage Fish Signs
Maine’s newest critical wild native brook trout public land, Cold Stream Forest near Jackman and West Forks, just got custom State Heritage Fish signs.
Encompassing seven State Heritage Fish waters - Lang, Little Lang, Snake, Durgin, Little Berry, Lone Jack, and Berry Ponds, the Cold Stream watershed is the finest and most intact wild native brook trout system east of Rangeley and south of Greenville.
We posted 11 signs on the 7 ponds and need to get back to post a couple of more, one at a second launch across a pond and one more at a popular roadside pond.
Special thanks to Maine Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands (BPL) Director Andy Cutko and Assistant Director Doug Reed for working with us to make this happen, and BPL Regional Manager Tim Post for helping us in the field.
Thanks to Maine NFC Chair Emily Bastian for managing the project from start to finish, and helping to mount, paint, and post the signs, including carrying signs and hardware into the three hike-in waters.
Also thanks to volunteer Bill Sheldon for providing the custom mounting boards and NFC National Board member Ben Brunt for helping with the sign design.
