“Coastal rivers and streams are unique, and in many ways. They end abruptly, lost in brackish water or saltwater. There is no gentle transmission from small freshwater stream to larger freshwater stream or river. Some empty into salt marshes, others into estuaries or protected bays, while some empty into open ocean, or even crashing surf. One stream I know goes intermittent before reaching the ocean in all but the highest tides. ”
