STEVEN SCOGGINS
STEVEN SCOGGINS grew up south of Birmingham, Alabama. He started fishing and hunting at a very early age, and is an avid kayaker, hiker, and a passionate fly fisher. Steven attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and serves as firefighter and paramedic. He grew up on the banks of a large tributary to the Black Warrior River, home to a rare namesake species of black bass. His formative years spent chasing wild native fish on his home water also exposed him to the harsh realities of downstream industrial and household pollution from major cities and the need to address it. Steven fishes from Southern Appalachia where he targets wild native brook trout and redeye bass, to the Rocky Mountains where he fishes for wild native cutthroat. He was the first documented fly fisher to catch all four Mobile Basin redeye bass species in a single day. Steven completed the inaugural 2018 Redeye Bass Grand Slam, catching all 7 redeye bass in one calendar year. He is an amateur filmmaker and photographer and hopes to use these skills to advocate for the protection of wild native fish and where they live. Steven can be reached at Info@nativefishcoalition.org
