RON FISCHER
RON FISCHER is a passionate fly fisher and conservationist. He is an active member of two other fish conservation organizations as well as NFC. Ron owns a small security business in the Catskills of New York that was established by his father in 1970, and calls the fabled rivers and streams of the area “home water.” While most of the best-known historic Catskill waters are devoid of wild brook trout due to angler exploitation, stocking, and nonnative trout, Ron has been able to find pockets of these native fish that have survived in various lesser-known waters and headwaters. Last seen to any great degree decades ago, he hopes to see the return of New York’s official state fish to the fabled Catskill’s rivers and streams. Ron is also concerned about the long-term viability of the lake-dwelling wild native brook trout of the Adirondacks, the most significant population outside of Maine in the United States, which are now stressed by development.
