NFC is Going Green(er)...
It has always bothered me when non-profits spend more on membership processing and administration than they make on it. It means we are just a number, not actually contributing to the cause.
NFC decided early on that we would not waste your membership money on administration or free schwag, or spend more money chasing memberships than we make.
As a result, the bulk of your membership money goes where we believe you want it to go, native fish conservation initiatives, not print media, trinkets, and free schwag.
As for the schwag available through our online store, NFC does all of our planning, purchasing, inventory management, and shipping ourselves using volunteer staff - there are no middle men… This allows us to maximize our return-on-investment, while also controlling the quality and service.
We also decided early on to not consume resources unnecessarily, and to take advantage of low-impact technologies. This is why we do a virtual versus a print newsletter. We also developed a paperless raffle system.
Recently, we looked at paper, envelope, and printer cartridge consumption and cost. We looked at postage as well. This resulted in several changes in regard to how we correspond with renewing members, donors, and schwag purchasers, as well how we ship schwag and new member welcome packages (welcome letter, brochure, and decal).
Effective immediately, we will be making the following changes. This will save money in material and postage, as well as resources such as paper, envelopes, ink cartridges, etc. It will also help take some of the load off our volunteers, allowing them to focus on fish, not administration:
Combination membership/schwag orders will now ship together to save on packaging and postage.
As a rule, membership renewal confirmation will now be done electronically. You will be given the option of receiving a printed confirmation if you would prefer.
As a rule, donation confirmation will now be done electronically. You will be given the option of receiving a printed confirmation if you would prefer.
