NFC Joins New Hampshire Fish and Game and Others to Survey Project Water...

MA NFC board member Jeff Moore joined New Hampshire Fish and Game, along with volunteers from AmeriCorps, Plymouth State University (NH), Merrimack College and Boston College (MA), and Pemigewasset Valley TU for a day of e-fishing on a project watershed in north-central New Hampshire.

Working upstream from the mainstem, the group surveyed several tributaries using e-fishing equipment. In addition to wild native brook trout, the group encountered native eastern blacknose dace and longnose dace, changing to almost exclusively brook trout as they moved upstream.

Covering roughly 650 meters (711 yards) of stream, the group collected 180 wild native brook trout from 2-7-inches in what was once a compromised watershed due to restricted fish passage. Water temperatures were no higher than 62F which is good for this time of year, but likely influenced by cooler than normal weather and notable rain..
