Vermont's Winooski River Gets First Rare Non-Gamefish Signs...

Vermont NFC recently worked with Vermont Fish & Wildlife and Winooski Valley Park District to develope an informational sign denoting the presence of 14 native fish species in the lower Winooski River that are classified by the state as Species of Greatest Conservation Need. This includes lesser-known fish such as redhorse, channel darter, and eastern sand darter.

The first signs were recently posted by VT NFC with help from Winooski Valley Park District. Signs were posted Salmon Hole, Derway Island Nature Trail, Ethan Allen Homestead, and Mayes Landing, a fishing access site off the Burlington bike path.

Special thanks to VT NFC board member and project lead Luke Briccetti and WVPD Parks Supervisor Tim Larned getting the first signs posted.
