The New York chapter of NFC recently participated in Trek for Trout, a one-day event to support brook trout conservation in the Adirondacks. On hand for the event were New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, NY NFC, Trout Unlimited, New York Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, Trout Power, Paul Smith’s College, and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
The goal of the event was to post informational signs at roughly 100 brook trout ponds as part of a citizen science initiative to collect data to help protect these resources. The signs will note the prohibition on the use of live fish as bait. NFCers were able to post signs on 10 ponds in spite of heavy rain, lightning, hail, and swarms of black flies.
