Ohio NFC Hosts Seining Event for Students at Hocking College...

Building on the success of prior events, the Ohio chapter of NFC hosted a seining event for members of the Hocking College Fish & Wildlife Club. The event focused on native non-game fish identification. The group was able to collect 16 species of fish using seining nets and dip nets.

Species encountered during the event included eastern sand darter, smallmouth redhorse, bluntnose minnow, brindled madtom, spotted bass, dusky darter, and logperch. The native range of some of these fish is limited to the biodiversity rich Ohio River watershed.

These events help inform and educate the masses in regard to the wild native fish, especially non-game species, that often go unnoticed. As fish conservation groups go, Ohio NFC is unique in that their primary focus is on non-game species.

Special thanks to OH NFC chair cameron layne for making this event happen. and to the members of hocking college who attended.
