Photograph Use and Sharing

Goal

NFC looks to prevent copyright infringement violations in regard to the use of photographs on our website and national and state social media. We also want to be able to share photos between chapters and national for use in blogging and the website.

Photograph Use

  • As a general rule, when it comes to photographs (including artwork, charts, and graphs), if you don’t own it or it didn’t come from the NFC website, do not use it on the www, any form of correspondence, or published document without written permission.

    • Written permission associated with content that does not belong to NFC must be submitted to National NFC prior to use.

    • Anything residing on the NFC website may be scraped and used as long as you do so with the noted caption and credit.

Photograph Sharing

  • It is important that chapters share photographs pertaining to projects, as well as local fish species and habitat, so that they can be used on the NFC website, newsletters, and for blogging and social media.

    • Please send applicable photos to the Executive Director as attachments to an email.

      • Avoid using clouds, etc., wherever possible as it creates an extra step for the recipient.

      • Photos must be in standard .PNG or .JPG image format.

      • Do not send .WEBP, .HEIC, or .PDF files as they have to be converted for use on the NFC website, our newsletter, and most social media platforms.

      • Send photos unedited and in high-resolution format.

      • Landscape photos work better than portrait as they are easier to crop for website use where necessary.

        • All thumbs associated with the NFC website require square photos. This includes entry excerpts, member bios, etc.

        • All photo galleries are set up to use square images so as to provide a common look and feel and consistency.
