While working on Cheesecake Brook in Newton, Massachusetts, MA NFC decided to check on Laundry Brook just to the south. Both Cheesecake Brook and Laundry Brook have sloped slabs just upstream of where they empty into the Charles River. The slabs are protecting municipal sewer pipes.

The Charles River gets a strong river herring run in the spring. While fish congregate at Watertown Dam, some get past the dam. Cheesecake Brook is upstream of the dam and Laundry Brook is immediately downstream of the dam. Both likely candidates for herring runs if the fish had access…
