NFC has found that nothing works better for clearing debris from small dams, culverts, and pipes than a heavy-duty garden hoe. Our tool of choice is a US Made 58”, 12-gauge hoe with a 5.25″ x 6.25” blade and polyester coated fiberglass handle. This tool can also be used to clear small stream channels of debris to increase flow and lessen impounding which can warm the water.
