Epic Day Afield for Epic 370 Raffle Winner
We just heard back from NFC supporter and Epic fly rod raffle winner Austin from Colorado. Austin hit the road with his new Epic StudioBuilt 370 FastGlass fly rod in search of trout. He dedicated his afternoon to fishing both a high-alpine lake and a small creek in Summit County. The weather conditions were perfect at 60-70 degrees and partly cloudy with a slight breeze.
Austin started the afternoon fishing a personal-favorite small lake high in the mountains not too far from Leadville, Colorado. After a short hike to his favorite spot, he rigged his rod and tied on a #14 yellow humpy, his go-to fly for the lake. It wasn’t long before Austin noticed a nice cutthroat trout cruising near the shore. The fish took his fly on the first cast.
Several hours later, as the sun started to retreat behind the mountains to the west, Austin headed back to his car. He stopped by a small creek on his way home, perfect water for his new Epic 3-wt.
As happened earlier at the lake, it didn’t take long for a #14 tan caddis to fool a few trout, including a wild native cutthroat that came just as it started to rain in the late afternoon. The fish showed evidence of a recent encounter with a bird of prey or small mammal.
Austin considers himself “super lucky” to have won the Epic 3-wt in the NFC raffle earlier this year. Having a day afield like this to end his season made the whole experience one he won’t soon forget.
Special thanks to our friends at Epic and MidCurrent for making this possible. And stayed tune as NFC has several more Epic fly rods to raffle off over the winter.
