What State Should NFC Move Into Next?

With our twelfth state chapter, New Jersey, just added, NFC is looking for where to go next. Based on our records, we currently have the most Board prospects in Virginia, New York, North Carolina, and Maryland. All four states are appealing to us for different reasons.

Adding Virginia would create a 5-state footprint in the Mid-Atlantic. The state is also home to Shenandoah National Park, critically important wild native brook trout habitat.

New York would lock up a 10-state contiguous footprint in the Northeast. It is also home to the last notable populations of wild native pond-dwelling brook trout outside of Maine.

North Carolina would expand our Southeast presence to four contiguous states. The state is also home to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, critically important wild native brook trout habitat, and the northern end of the Southern strain brook trout range.

Maryland is a leader in wild native brook trout management. While we don’t have a presence in the state, we have worked with Maryland Department of Natural Resources on an informational sign project for the Savage River system.
