Fish, the Missing Link in Suburban/Urban Conservation… This is the name of a webinar featuring NFC Executive Director Bob Mallard hosted by Newton Conservators on Nov 13, 2025 at 7:00 PM Eastern Time.

Massachusetts NFC has undertaken several projects involving urban and suburban streams in Newton, MA. Cheesecake Brook is an urban stream where NFC has confirmed the presence of native American Eel and white sucker. NFC confirmed that sea-run alewives are trying to navigate a cement slab on the lower end of Laundry Briook in Newton . And Cold Spring Brook while badly altered and neglected is home to golden shiners and amazingly, catadromous American eel.
