Helo Support Informational Arctic Charr Kiosks for Lake Sunapee in NH...

NFC is working with towns on Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire in regard to a series of 24x24” kiosks denoting the historical presence and subsequent loss of rare Arctic charr known at the time as Sunapee trout. It is important to know what was historically present, and equally important to know what was lost and how so that we don’t make the same mistakes again.

Arctic charr were historically found in Lake Sunapee and Big Dan Hole Pond in New Hampshire, Averill Lake and possibly Little Averill Lake in Vermont, and Maine. The only remaining native Arctic charr in the Contiguous United States are 12 populations in Maine.

These kiosks are part of a larger NFC project that posted a similar kiosk at Height of Land in Rangeley, Maine, which spotlights the historical presence and loss of the Arctic charr from Rangeley Lakes, the largest population in the Contiguous United States. We are hoping to expand the project into Vermont as well.

We are looking to raise $400 to help cover the price of 3-4 signs slated to be posted at public locations in towns around Lake Sunapee. While our partners are providing logistical support in regard to posting and maintenance, NFC will be paying for the signs to avoid potential delays due to town budget constraints.
