Ohio NFC Helps Sample Olentangy River...

On June 22, 2025, the Ohio chapter of Native Fish Coalition Ohio Chapter partnered with Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed and Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks for a stream sampling event on the Olentangy River at Highbanks Metro Park in Lewis Center, Ohio.

Despite being very hot out, over 100 people attended the event. While conditions in the river were not ideal, participants in the program were able to locate fish in a small ravine.

Ohio NFC and our partners were pleased to get in front of the participants, many of whom were children, to teach them about native fish and where to find them. We were also thrilled to capture an orangethroat darter, an unexpected species where we were sampling.
