NFC Executive Director Bob Mallard talks Cheesecake Brook with Friends of Albemarle Park...

NFC Executive Director Bob Mallard inspects a fish captured from Cheesecake Brook in Newton, Massachusetts…

NFC decided to take a closer look at Cheesecake Brook because we felt it had the most fish potential, and in several ways.
— Bob Mallard

The Massachusetts chapter of NFC has been working at Cheesecake Brook in Newton, MA, as part of there suburban and urban stream work. In many ways, Cheesecake Brook is the highest potential urban stream we have looked at yet…

Unlike many urban streams that are buried in their most downstream reaches, Cheesecake Brook is daylighted for the last mile and a half before it empties into the Charles River. And while fish passage is impeded due to a sloped cement slab, the river is home to sea-run fish such as river herring.
