MARTY ROMEO

MARTY ROMEO has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Johns Hopkins University. He is currently the Director of the Translational Science Laboratory at the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. Marty is also a renowned fiberglass fly rod builder, having built custom rods for several Native Fish Coalition board members. With roots in western New York state, his interest in wild native fish began with his first brook trout from Spring Creek in Caledonia, and continued to grow while living in Maryland and discovering remnant brook trout populations in the Gunpowder Falls watershed. Brook trout became a near obsession while spending six years living in Richmond, Virginia, exploring the streams in and around Shenandoah National Park. While Marty cut his teeth on wild native brook trout, now living in the Charleston area, he has discovered the world of redfish, an important native saltwater species. Marty is teaching his children about native fish conservation as well. He can be reached at Info@nativefishcoalition.org
