AGUSTIN "GUS" UMANZOR

It is important to me to allow future generations to not only have the opportunity to appreciate and fall in love with the great outdoors but also to have the opportunity to see native wildlife in its natural habitat.
— Gus Umanzor

AGUSTIN "GUS" UMANZOR was born and raised in Maryland and currently resides in Rockville. He enjoys backpacking and fly fishing. After hiking the Appalachian trail in 2017, Gus developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors and looked for more ways to enjoy nature. This led him to discover fly fishing. Gus enjoys fly fishing for wild native trout, and prefers backcountry small mountain streams where he can mix his passion for backpacking with fly fishing. Gus’ appreciation for wild native fish goes beyond brook trout, and he looks to use his position in NFC to help protect all native fishes. Gus is currently a middle school Spanish teacher in Bethesda, Maryland. A Salvadorian, he teaches students Spanish, as well as culture. Gus previously worked in the development office of a nonprofit independent school. He has a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Management & Leadership from the University of Maryland.
