NFC Procures AVID MiniTracker Pro for In-the-Field PIT Reading
NFC has added an AVID MiniTracker Pro for in-the-field PIT reading. This compact scanner will be used to scan fish during angling surveys to see if they have been tagged. Small enough to fit in a vest, chestpack, or fannypack, and with a read range 3-5”, it is perfect for solo use which is not the case with larger scanners.
We will be testing it in Downeast Maine next week as part of a project with Downeast Salmon Federation and others to determine if sea-run brook trout, and other species, in a multi-stream bay ecosystem demonstrate inter-stream movement. These conditions can only be found in Maine for the most part.
