Rhode Island Gets First Rock Dam Signs

While we do not have a presence in the state, NFC worked with Protect Rhode Island Brook Trout, Rhode Island Trout Unlimited, Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, and Rhode Island Division of Fish and Wildlife on an informational sign project pertaining to manmade rock dams on the Beaver River.

These were the first signs posted in what will become a statewide initiative to address areas where manmade rock dams are an ongoing problem.

This project fell right in line with a NFC-wide campaign to educate the masses in regard to the negative impacts of manmade rock dams, cairns, and other structures. The goal is to discourage people from building them, and help remove them when they are encountered.

NFC has also created a special Rock Dam Buster decal and t-shirt to help draw attention to the problem.

Special thanks to Josh Parsons and Brian O’Conner of PRIBT; Glenn Place, President RITU and Massachusetts NFC Advisory Council member; Rich benson, John Genovese, and Pierre Duval of riTU, and everyone else who helped to make this important project a reality.
