West Virginia NFC Helps Reintroduce Brook Trout to Local Stream...

Juvenile brook trout ready to be released in a West Virginia stream.

West Virginia NFC assisted West Virginia Department of Natural Resources to help reintroduce brook trout to a stream in the eastern panhandle region where they had been extirpated. WVDNR uses eggs from locally sourced brook trout populatrions to raise fingerlings for restoration.

Hopefully this program will prove successful enough to be used elsewhere to further expand native brook trout restoration in West Virginia.

Special thanks to WV NFC board member Travis Hines and WVDNR biologist Brandon Keplinger for making this happen.
