NFC believes that no tool is more important in regard to stream assessment than a compact, quick-reading, accurate, hand-held, waterproof, thermometer. After testing several types of thermometers we settled on non-contact infrared technology, and specifically, the Pocket Infrared Thermometer from ThermoWorks. In addition to testing data loggers prior to installation, and groups of data loggers to confirm consistency, stream thermometers are great for doing random tests to determine what is happening at a given location or over a section of stream. In a perfect world all NFC board members would be equipped with one of these and carry it whenever they are afield in support of advocacy or simply fishing.
