PA NFC Surveys Moshannon Creek Drainage
The Pennsylvania chapter of Native Fish Coalition conducted water quality sampling, water sample collection, and Benthic Macroinvertebrate surveys on several tributaries to Moshannon Creek on Friday and Saturday April 9-10.
The work done by PA NFC supports ongoing efforts by Moshannon Creek Watershed Association, Susquehanna River Basin Commission, and others to document the current Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) impact throughout the watershed.
While surveying, PA NFC discovered a previously undocumented population of wild native brook trout which they will now work to get state-level recognition and protections for.
Special thanks to PA NFC State Chair Philip Light, Vice Chair Andrew Mickey, Secretary Christopher Mickey, and Board member Eamonn Powers for taking the time to undertake this important survey.
