A pair of Epic 370 FastGlass fly rods owned by NFC founding members Executive Director Bob Mallard and National Chair Emily Bastian…
One of the truly great things about fly fishing is the robust tackle offering. And few things in this world are as rewarding as a new high-end fly rod or reel. Thanks to our partners, Epic Fly Rods, R.L. Winston Rod Company, and Bauer Fly Reels, NFC is able to offer a broad range of high-end fly rods and fly rod/fly reel outfits in conjunction with lifetime memberships.

NFC discovered Epic fly rods as a result of Executive Director Bob Mallard’s fly fishing writing. Their modern best-in-class S2 fiberglass rods immediately became a favorite of NFCers. Epic has sponsored a native fish conservation guest column in MidCurrent featuring Bob’s writing for several years. This relationship has also provided NFC with access to Epic fly rods to use for special memberships to raise money for wild native fish conservation initiatives. NFC offers three Epic fly rod options: Small Stream (370 FastGlass), Backcountry (476 Packlight), and Freshwater (580 FastGlass).
NFC Executive Director Bob Mallard has had a long relationship with R.L. Winston Rod Company. Bob sold Winston rods at his fly shop for 15 years, one of the first shops in Maine to do so, and served on Winston’s Pro Staff for several years. NFC offers three Winston fly rod options: Small Stream (273-4 Pure2), Freshwater (590-4 Air2), and Big Game (890-4 Air2 Max).
NFC Executive Director Bob Mallard has had a long relationship with Bauer Reels as well. Bob sold Bauer reels at his fly shop for 15 years, the first shop in Maine to do so. Bauer is owned by R.L. Winston’s, making it a perfect match for their fly rods. NFC offers two Winston/Bauer fly rod/reel combo options: Freshwater+ (590-4 Air2 and RX2) and Big Game+ (890-4 Air2 Max and RX4). Reels are green to match the rods…
For those who want something unique, NFC offers two limited edition, “Blackout Series,” Epic fly rod options: Small Stream (370 FastGlass) and Freshwater (580 FastGlass).
When you take out an NFC lifetime membership with fly rod or fly rod/fly reel combo, everyone wins. You get a best-in-class rod or outfit, NFC gets much needed funding for wild native fish conservation, and the resource we all love gets the help it needs…
